Team Event Munich 2022

Team Event Munich - June 2022

The last team event in October 2021 was a great success. The event was highly needed due to Covid-19. The team liked it so much that we wanted to organize further events at shorter intervals. Now, in June 2022, the time had come for the next event. The team was excited to get back together and continue the fun. But this time a little bigger, more extensive and with more participants.
So we decided to spread the next team event over two days.

Day one: Rafting on the Isar River

The first day should focus on fun, team building and communicating with each other. The second day was to focus on improving communication within Team XALT. Therefore, we invited a coach for a workshop that helped us break down our communication style into small steps and improve each step to achieve a more polished approach.
But back to the first day. As the first location of the day, we decided to visit the foothills of the Alps on the Isar. To be more precise, Lenggries. After arriving in Lenggries, we went directly to the headquarters of the organizer Montevia.

Here, during the obligatory Weisswurst breakfast, it was finally revealed what the marketing team had come up with. The team was to build its own raft and use it to navigate the turbulent waters of the Isar. So first we went to the banks of the Isar, where a small kit for building the raft was waiting for us. After a short introduction by our guide, we could already start. The rafts were built, neo's were put on and then we went out on the water.

But wait, the day was not over yet. After we dismantled the rafts, we headed back to the train station, back to Munich, and to Killian's Irish Pub. As you can imagine, we were all pretty hungry after spending half a day on the water. And what better than some delicious burgers, spare ribs and a cold pint of Irish Ale.

Day two: Workshop Munich Office

Today's workshop was all about team building and what it means to be a part of XALT. We started with a short introduction from Timon, our coach, and then went straight into building our XALT mobile.
We split into three teams and got to work making our mobile look, feel, and function the same.
Next, we talked about when it's time for XALT. We discussed the four stages of psychological development that a team goes through when working on a project: Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing. The model is also called Tuckman's Phases of Group Development.
This was a very helpful exercise for us because it helped us understand what stage our team is in and what we need to do to continue to grow and develop - personally and as a team.
Finally, we discussed the topics we are currently working on. We looked at our project pipeline, projects that have been completed, and topics that need to come back to the table. This was a great opportunity to get an overview of what everyone is working on and identify areas where we need to provide more support to individual team members.
All in all, today's workshop was a great opportunity to bond as a team and get a better understanding of our roles and responsibilities.

Time for a short summary

In summary, the second day of the team event was a great success. We had a lot of fun, got to know each other even better and learned a lot about how we work and where our strengths and weaknesses lie.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the event. We are already looking forward to planning the next event. This time in Leipzig. And hopefully with more people participating.

Girls'Day 2022 XALT

The first Girls' Day at XALT 2022

Girls' Day is a nationwide campaign in which schoolgirls from the 5th grade onwards spend a day in a company of their choice gaining an insight into an aspired, scientific and technical profession. Women are still understudied in IT because there is still some fear of contact and many think that the IT industry is only for men.

That's why it's important for us that women get to grips with the issue at an early stage and find out what diverse career opportunities the IT industry has to offer them.

And what better opportunity is there than Girls' Day.

Our team then decided relatively quickly to take part in Girls' Day 2022 and to make two places available on site at our Munich office.

Under the motto "Gain an insight into an IT company", we at XALT wanted to give young female students the opportunity to see what different careers and topics there are in IT.

In the process, the two learned:

  • #WomenInTech
  • Team XALT and HR - An overview of XALT and the various professions in IT.
  • Project Management - How to manage teams and communication and which tool to use?
  • Hacking & Automations: How to keep using your apps despite being locked out, what is AI anyway and why is everyone talking about it?
  • Excel, why you (still) need it, and the first path to automation.
  • Insalata di Pomodori: Requirements & Expectations. If you want more, you have to ask for more.
  • TikTok in IT → Millennials explain the world to us.
  • Take over XALT and run the world

On April 28, the time had finally come. Girls' Day was here.

It was a special concern for us that the two participants Maja and Jule could get a taste of every area of XALT and future IT topics.

After getting acquainted with part of our team, you learned more about IT consulting, which clients and projects XALT serves, and why the fabled cloud is so important to the future of digitization within society.

Girls' Day, a complete success.

The feedback from the two participants was consistently positive. We hope that both of them were able to get a first impression of the world of IT and that we have aroused their interest.

We would like to thank all colleagues who supported us in the preparation and implementation. Thanks also to all the participating students. We can't wait to participate in Girls' Day again next year.

Atlassian Community - Virtual XMAS Party

Christmas is the time of joy, happiness, and love. It brings people together and provides the perfect opportunity to review the past year, which is especially important in today's turbulent times.

That is why we were even more excited about the Atlassian Community XMAS Party. Atlassian experts from all over Germany pulled out their Christmas sweaters and met to exchange ideas, to connect and, of course, to have a great time together.

The event kicked off with the participants introducing themselves and getting to know each other. This was followed by a Christmas story about the latest news from the Atlassian Community, which got everyone in a Christmas mood.

Also the participants were in the spotlight: At the Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest, they had to prove their fashion sense. The 3 most original sweaters even won a special prize.

Since Christmas is also a time for giving, all participants received a small gift from the sponsors.
Many thanks for the great presents to Atlassian, K15t, //SEIBERT/MEDIA, catworkx, kreuzwerker, STAGIL, Communardo, netlogix, Jodocus, Scandio and yasoon. Of course, there was also some swag to catch from us at XALT.

Last but not least, we ended the evening together with a stroll through the virtual Christmas market. This was a great opportunity to get to know each other better and to talk and exchange stories with each other.

Thanks to the Atlassian communities from Munich, Cologne, Nuremberg and Hamburg. An extra shoutout to the organizers and presenters: Nina Schmidt, Fabienne Gerhard, Krimo Khermane, Maxine Kröll, Andree Lindenblatt, Lars Mählmann and Thomas Schlegel, thank you for planning this beautiful evening!

Although the event was completely remote, we had a lot of fun with all of you. It was great to meet so many members of the Atlassian community from all over Germany.

We are happy to be part of this amazing community and are looking forward to more awesome events next year!

2021 Throwback

2021 Throwback and what's to come

The year is nearing its end and the time has come to celebrate Christmas and New Year with your friends, family and loved ones. Earlier this year, we had some big plans. Grow #TeamXALT, release new products and become a well-trusted co-pilot and partner in our customer's projects.

Like others, we also wanted to recap what we achieved this year and if we accomplished our set goals for 2021.

#TeamXALT grows in numbers

During the year, we welcomed lots of new teammates. We grew our consulting, marketing, operations and development teams and welcomed Mario, Tobias, Nadine, Ben, Katharina and more.

Growing in numbers allowed us to not only acquire more customers and satisfy the demand for hybrid work solutions like intranets, knowledge bases and DevOps solutions but also improved the way we communicate with our customers and be their co-pilots for their vital projects and growth.

Being able to work side by side with such incredible people is a privilege for the TEAM XALT. Therefore, we wanted to say thank you for all of your input and hard work.

Despite the ongoing pandemic, we also decided to get together for a team event at the beginning of October and went for a hike in the Bavarian Alps for a change of pace and to bond even further as a team. Hopefully, we'll be able to plan more team events in person next year.

As we continue to grow, we are always searching for new talents that help us to achieve our main goal; Simplifying IT.

Working remotely & hybrid consulting and software development

Due to Covid-19, not all went as planned and lead to unexpected challenges. May it be the fact that remote and hybrid work solutions needed to be implemented fast or the once bulletproof approach in consulting, being on-premise changed drastically. The shift from on-premise to digital consulting forced us and our customers to shift our approach fast.

Together with our customers, we decided to go boom or bust and pursue our joint projects remotely. And what can we say, we experienced some challenges along the road. But within a few months, everything worked out like a charm and we feel more comfortable than ever working remotely. Nonetheless, we also cherish the opportunity to meet our customers in person and look forward to inviting them to our offices in Munich and Leipzig as soon as possible.

Container8 - The all-in-one DevOps as a Service Platform went live

What we are certainly most proud of is the release of the Container8 DevOps as a Service platform, enabling product teams to release software, updates and new features to the market faster than ever before.

When Philipp Göllner founded XALT in 2016 he dedicated himself and XALT to achieving exactly what Container8 is a vital part of. Making IT as simple as possible.

Being able to automate recurring tasks, such as deploying new code to a live system and having a built-in security and compliance system that directly issues a warning of potential hazards frees up resources to be used for important tasks.

Additionally, Container8 not only focuses on releasing new code fast or achieving a high-speed go-to-market. And therefore focusing on the development aspect of digital product development. Our solution also focuses on the IT operations point of view and helps teams to effectively and securely supply needed infrastructure. Overall, the platform integrates itself seamlessly into your organization's DevOps efforts and also supports your team's favourite tools.

At heart, our self-service platform includes the CALMS Framework for DevOps. Therefore, your efforts in terms of Culture, Automation, Measurement and Lean working principles can be achieved more easily and is also known as CALMS.

Just a couple of months ago, we released our Advanced Image Gallery for Confluence Data Center. If you've been looking for a solution to create beautiful, content savvy pages for your knowledge base and intranet, you can stop looking now. With the latest update, we also introduced photo filters, next to the existing image editing possibilities. These enable you to directly alter the look and feel of your images in confluence without the need for any external tools.

Our Gallery also officially supports our partners' products Linchpin, Scroll Viewport and Refined Wiki to bring even more beauty to your confluence pages and space.

You can experience the Advanced Image Gallery in action here.

What coming next?

In 2021, we achieved plenty. We built new tools and solutions, released the Container8 platform, acquired the Atlassian Gold Partnership and became AWS Consulting Partner.

For 2022 we are setting big goals. Here's what's next for XALT.

  • Further development of the Container8 DevOps as a Service platform and acquire new partners to implement the platform for new customers.
  • Further development of our existing apps and development of new approaches. And provision of Jira Sync as a stand-alone 3rd party integration for Jira software.
  • Growth in the DACH region and the US with CPI Solutions.
  • Expansion of TeamXALT in the areas of infrastructure, DevOps, development, sales and marketing, distributed across our locations in Munich, Leipzig, and remote all over the world.

One more thing

All of our recent growth wouldn't have been possible without the team and our customers. For that, we wanted to say thank you. At the risk of repeating ourselves, being able to work alongside such incredible people from all over the world means so much to us.

AWS Consulting Partner

XALT becomes AWS Consulting Partner

Since 2016, we have been helping and accompanying IT teams on their way to implementing DevOps methods, cloud concepts and agile workflows. At the beginning of the year, XALT received the Atlassian Gold Partner Award. And at the end of July 2021, the time had finally come - we were named an AWS Consulting Partner.

What do we at XALT intend to do with this certification? And how we will use this new capability to help companies successfully implement DevOps or migrate their software landscape to the cloud in the future, you can read in this article.

Future-proof companies need a fail-safe IT infrastructure

The cloud migration of an existing software landscape has never been more relevant than today. Performance, downtimes and availability are important factors that have a direct impact on the business viability of a company and additionally impact customer satisfaction.

The demands of today's customers and users are far more diverse and consolidated than they were just a few years ago. Due to the unlimited availability of the Internet and its direct impact on the workplace, it has become a necessity that productive systems are permanently available from everywhere.

By leveraging AWS cloud computing solutions, we have been able to keep these outages to a minimum for our customers and ensure availability of 99.95% and above. With solutions like Blue-Green Deployments and the use of Docker, Kubernetes, Atlassian Apps and the implementation of the DevOps culture, we also achieve that teams of different departments can work together more easily and efficiently. And in doing so, achieve a direct and, above all, positive impact on the company's goals.

XALT's plans for 2021 and 2022 at a glance

Along with the new AWS partnership, XALT is tackling several issues. Here's what's next for XALT.

  • Migrating existing solutions, Atlassian plugins and apps to the cloud to make them fit for the future and actively support our existing customers and partners
  • Further development of our existing apps and development of new approaches. And provision of Jira Sync as a stand-alone 3rd party integration for Jira software.
  • Growth in the DACH region and the USA.
  • Expansion of the teams in the areas of infrastructure, DevOps, development, sales and marketing, distributed across our locations in Munich and Leipzig.

Cloud computing provides more flexibility

For many companies, 2020 and 2021 will go down in corporate history as a year of change and reorganization - this is the year when the potential of cloud computing becomes clear. With home offices and remote working, a smoothly running software environment with digital processes and tools has become key to a company's agility and long-term success.

In this sense, cloud computing based on AWS plays a crucial role.

"We have to internalize that a company, in addition to its employees, is dependent on the permanent availability of software. This includes all tools of a company with which the employees work every day. Only when companies guarantee this, all users can fully concentrate on their work and be truly successful." - Philipp G.

The migration of software to the cloud - such as Jira and Confluence from Atlassian - is currently still in its infancy at many German companies. The great advantage of cloud migrations of Atlassian tools is that business processes can also be digitized and automated. This results in further savings and positive effects on the company's goals.

Digital transformation and cloud computing requires further thoughts

The pandemic has changed many things. Remote work and home office are now inevitably linked to the modern working world. Every company must decide for itself how it lives and shapes this new reality.

In terms of digital transformation and cloud computing, this means implementing new methods and building state-of-the-art IT infrastructure. It is time to look ahead and take things in hand that inevitably, already today, stand for the 21st century. It is time to prepare for further change and to provide all employees with the tools they use every day, everywhere and at all times, which they need for their value-adding work.

XALT Team Event 2021

XALT Team Event 2021

It's been two long years since we last organized a team event and met most of us in one place. For our Team Event 2021 we just wanted to do it the classic way. The Alps, or more precisely Garmisch-Partenkirchen ????.

But first of all, the whole team had to go to Munich. And that was best done one day before. So the day before all the Remoties and our team from Leipzig have romped extensively in Munich and of course finally once seen the Munich office live (and experienced ????).

On Friday, the time had finally come. We went hiking to Garmisch and the Partnachklamm.

Finally arrived, we visited the ski jump and watched the German team during training. Here we as a team finally had the opportunity after two years to get to know all the new team members personally and to strengthen the team cohesion.

Then it went directly further in the direction of Partnachklamm, with the firm goal to the summit. However, must be mentioned here, the whole thing has not really worked. The hunger, or the desire to stop has won then but directly.

So, what do you do then as a true Munich company? Stop in for a Weißwurst breakfast with a hearty sip of Munich wheat beer (goes without saying here ????).

After one, two white sausages and a pretzel then went on. Before the entrance to the gorge, it was then first pack everything waterproof. Then we started already. We went through the gorge and up to the Kaiserschmal-Alm. The gorge is a true spectacle of nature. We were lucky that it was still raining the day before and the gorge showed itself from its best side.

Once we arrived, we went straight to lunch and treated ourselves to a large portion of Kaiserschmarrn. Here we had the opportunity to get to know each other better and to talk to each other.

Last but not least, late in the afternoon we went back to the valley and for many back home.

Do you want to be part of our next event? We are always looking for cool, new talent! Apply now and become part of our team.

Working student at XALT

How working at XALT shapes my university life

Hello Alex, are you a working student at XALT? Please tell us something about yourself, your studies and your role in the company.

Hi, right, I'm Working student at XALT since May 2020 and study Bioinformatics at the Technical University of Munich. At XALT, I am involved in both internal company work and customer projects. Among other things, I support our DevOps engineers in quality assurance, configuration and documentation of software and/or deployment.

How did you get started at XALT?

I was contacted promptly after the acceptance of my application in order to start the onboarding directly. The onboarding week was a challenge for me, as I had never worked in an IT company before. First of all, I had to familiarize myself with the tools, workflows, and the Corporate culture familiar.

At the beginning, I could only get to know my colleagues online, but I was still warmly welcomed and invited to join the team. In the beginning, communication was crucial for me, so I felt like I was get involved in projects as quickly as possible and could get an overview of the company processes.

During my time at XALT so far, I had no problem balancing my studies with work. Of course, I had to do without some free time, as if I would only concentrate on my studies.

What parallels or differences do you see between working at XALT and your studies?

In the course of study, we are introduced to basic knowledge of various tools, methods and solution approaches. The methods learned serve as a helpful knowledge base to be able to work on actual problems from everyday work.

The fundamental difference between a project with XALT and in the university is that in the university the work on most projects (for students in the first semesters) is mainly for educational purposes. In a company, meanwhile, there are real tasks (of customers) to be done. Thus, one works with a real and concrete problem, which has to be solved. Moreover, in work the focus is often on a quality result. At university, the focus tends to be more on methodology.

FOR STUDENTS

You have the drive to learn new things? Join us and support our team in cool projects.

Collaboration

What impact did the work culture at XALT have on your college life?

As a bioinformatics student, working in the IT department has broadened my horizons in several areas. Among other things, in the analysis of Big Data, in programming as well as in general teamwork. These are all topics that are also crucial in my studies.

For our projects, for example, I also familiarized myself with DevOps tools, carried out software testing and worked on the project organization. In the process, I was able to gain valuable knowledge about how a company works. My new programming skills gave me a boost in the computer science lectures and exercises at university, for example, as I always had a reference to what can actually be done with programming.

Furthermore, the work at XALT has a positive impact on my productivity at the university. I have learned to organise my work and process tasks in a structured way. This helps me to organise my everyday life in such a way that both my student work, my studies and I as a person can benefit from it.

What are your most important lessons learned from your time at XALT?

In my short time at XALT, I have been able to learn a lot so far. The 5 most important thingsI learned as a working student are:

  • Insight into management and organization of larger IT projects
  • Work in a team of individuals with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise.
  • Self-organized work distribution and problem solving
  • Communication setup for remote work
  • Coffee in the morning drives away sorrow and worries 🙂

In summary, I would say that working in a company is a completely different experience to studying at university. This will not be a big surprise. Very different from my point of view are topics like the general problem-solving approach and the different learning methods.

Atlassian Gold Partner

XALT goes gold - Atlassian Gold Partner

Having Partnered up with Atlassian since the very beginning and founding of XALT we acquired the Atlassian Gold Partner Status earlier this year and won’t stop there. Next goal: Platinum Partner!

But how did we achieve this? Atlassian is one of our most important partners and helps us to grow. Even faster than we expected. The Atlassian tool-set, including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket and more, enables us to help our customers on their path of digitization and their very own vision of the future.

Atlassian you might think; that’s Jira and Confluence. And you’re totally right. But those tools enable you to do much more than just project management and having a communication and collaboration hub at your company.

Jira also helps us to build the digital products our customers love. Confluence is our go-to tool for setting up company wikis, Intranets, help centers and knowledge bases’. All these tools combined enables us to grow faster, create the processes we need to strive, and communicate across company borders.

But that's not all. DevOps Champion and solution provider, these tools are an integral part of our workflow.
